Pregnancy – Maternity Nightwear and How to Choose it
During your pregnancy and with a newborn baby at home, sleep is a precious commodity – you need to do everything you can to promote it. Having the right maternity nightwear will certainly make you feel as comfortable as possible when you do get to bed. While it needs to be practical, this does not mean it can’t be desirable and luxurious.
Nutritional Diet
You have to practice a nutritional diet. It is very important for you to understand that your baby is going to take nutrients from the food you are eating. The baby does it through the umbilical cord. Some of the nutrients that are essential for you at this stage include calcium, zink, iron, and folic acid. However, it does not mean that other nutrients are not necessary – it’s just that the mentioned ones are more important. When you are in the first trimester, your pregnancy diet must include vitamin B9 and folic acid. Folic acid plays a very important role in development of the baby, especially its nervous system.
So, you must have at least 400 microgram supplement of folic acid everyday. Besides that, you should also focus on foods that are rich in folic acid, such as fruit juices, beans, and green vegetables. Eat a lot of these foods on a daily basis. Such nutritional diet will ensure that no congenital malfunction occur during the baby’s development.
Some Foods to Avoid and/or Regulate
-Caffeine- keep caffeine levels very low as they affect hormone levels
-Animal Proteins- replace with plant proteins when possible. Limit soy intake however
-Pees- pees contain a chemical that makes pregnancy quite a bit more difficult
Like your quality of sleep, the quality of what you sleep in must be considered. Your body is more prone to temperature fluctuations during your pregnancy. If this is the case for you, try to choose cotton Modal nightwear – its breathable and feels luxurious against your skin. Durability of fabrics must be considered as you will wash your maternity lingerie and garments more frequently than you otherwise would

Risks and benefits of hiring a midwife
One of the most misunderstood professions is that of a midwife. They are not as popular nowadays but there are still some people who practice it.If you are not knowledgeable about this profession they are the ones who assist expectant mothers. Usually not a nurse or a doctor it has been asked whether or not it is safe to use a midwife.Because most midwives perform birthing at the homes of the mothers. That is why in this article we are going to find out if midwifery is really safe or not.
Drug-free delivery of babies are what midwives usually do. At least that is my experience running a San Diego midwife service. Plus it is usually done in a home. That would be the reasons why most people are sceptical about its safety. What they perceive as a safe way of delivering a baby is through the use of drugs. But that would not be the case all the time.
In fact, these drugs can even slow down the delivery of the baby and can also cause some complications.Midwives do not use the aid of drugs while helping the mothers give birth that is why the delivery would be faster and recovery of the mother would be faster also. That has been the case so many times in my homebirth midwife San Diego service.A lot of mothers experience speedy recovery when they went natural.
But people do not know the fact that most natural homebirths are only recommended to women that are healthy enough to undergo it.This means that if the woman has a high risk pregnancy or has a history of medical problems which can complicate the pregnancy then I will not accept them. Generally the women I do assist in my certified midwives San Diego practice are women who have had no history of complications. The moment I realize there is a danger to their delivery I recommend a hospital.
So hopefully you see that precautions are taken to make sure the mother and child are safe. That is the reason why homebirthing and midwifery is still safe.

How To Keep Safe In Pregnancy.
You will find when you are pregnant well meaning people will try to offer you tips and advice concerning your pregnancy and what you can and cannot do. Some of this information will be outdated and could potentially cause harm to your baby, so if you are given any advice you are unsure about, always check with your midwife first.
Whilst they mean well they may try to inform you that when they had babies they could eat and drink what they liked and their babies were fine!! Whilst this was true for their generation it was due to the fact that the doctors back then did not have the benefit of medical and scientific advances. Now they know that some miscarriages could have been prevented by women avoiding certain foods.
There are obvious things to avoid if pregnant and common sense will tell you this (and your midwife!) Despite the vast array of beautiful tattoo designs for women it is not advisable to get tattooed when pregnant and you may find a reputable tattooist would not tattoo you when pregnant anyway. Tattooists have listed reasons such as the risk of fainting or the pain causing a big shock and sending women into labour prematurely as some of the reasons why they will not tattoo pregnant women.
An early pregnancy guide will often advise against caffeine intake, there is also conflicting advice regarding this. Some studies have shown that drinking a few cups of coffee per day in early pregnancy can increase the miscarriage risk. Other studies dispute this; it is recommended that if you still want to drink coffee in the first trimester that you have less than three a day. Some women choose not to drink it altogether in the first three months, mainly due to ‘going off’ the taste and smell.
Acne very commonly occurs during pregnancy due to hormones raging around your body. Be careful about what you use and always read the labels to ensure it is safe to use in pregnancy.
A glycolic acid skin care treatment is a safe option whilst pregnant and is usually very effective. If this does not work for you then a prescription of a topical skin care cream can be obtained from your doctor.
Remembering to check what is safe to eat in pregnancy is vital. Certain foods can cause food poisoning in expectant mothers and cause harm to the baby. Avoid prawns and other shellfish, blue veined and soft cheeses, unpasteurised milk, and food like sushi containing raw fish and undercooked meats such as blue steak.

Knowing What To Avoid In Pregnancy
Whilst you want to enjoy your pregnancy, you may be worrying about the sometimes conflicting advice that can be given by well meaning people around you. Older woman in particular are prone to giving information that may be medically outdated and could potentially cause problems to your unborn baby.
The most reliable form of information will come from your midwife or doctor. Tattoo designs for women are best avoided when pregnant and you will be hard pressed to find a tattooist that is wiling to tattoo you when you are pregnant. There is a high risk of you fainting which obviously is dangerous in case you hurt yourself if you fell when fainting. Some tattooists are reticent also because there is the possibility of going into labour if the pain gets too much for you once the tattooist has started.
A early pregnancy guide will most likely inform you that drinking coffee whilst pregnant has been shown to have an increased risk of miscarriage. There have been numerous studies on this and the advice is still unclear to some extent. Some recommend that no caffeine is the best approach, particularly during the first trimester, whilst other research has shown that it can be drunk in moderation with no harm apparent. If in doubt consult your midwife, but you may find mother nature will be at work and the slightest whiff of coffee will have you running to the bathroom!
Pregnancy acne is a very common occurrence. It is caused by the high levels of hormones in your system. But whilst there are plenty of acne products on the market, be careful about their use during pregnancy.
A glycolic acid skin care treatment is a safe option whilst pregnant and is usually very effective. If this does not work for you then a prescription of a topical skin care cream can be obtained from your doctor.
It is essential to your babies and your health that you eat well and healthily. Read about the foods that are best avoided and bear this in mind when cooking and eating out. In general do not eat shellfish such as prawns, unpasteurised dairy products such as soft cheese like brie, all types of pate and raw or undercooked meats.

Are You Pregnant? Two Indicators
The idea of being pregnant might make you feel elated or it might make you afraid. Either way, if you truly are pregnant, most women want to know that information as soon as possible.
Why the angst? Because if it turns out that you are indeed pregnant, your life is about to take a huge detour. Which is why it helps to be able to recognize the early signs pregnancy? How can a woman tell early on if she’s pregnant?
Pregnancy symptoms differ from woman to woman. Some women experience symptoms of pregnancy within as little time as a week of conception. Others experience no pregnancy symptoms at all until they begin to show the “baby bump.” Still others may experience different pregnancy symptoms when pregnant with different children.
Two relatively common signs that nearly all pregnant women experience are:
1. You’ve recently missed your last menstrual period.
The all time #1 reason that you may possibly have conceived. While it is certainly true that a missed period doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re pregnant, it should grab your attention. What other things could cause a missed period? Quite a few: – extreme dieting, excess amounts of exercise, prescribed or non-prescribed medications, eating disorders, a chronic illnesses, and many more. Nonetheless, if your menstrual period has been pretty consistent lately and then – it suddenly doesn’t appear on schedule – this is a red flag and you seriously should think about taking a pregnancy test.
2. Your breasts have become amazingly sensitive.
Now sometimes a woman will naturally experience tenderness in her breast just prior to her period. In other words, it may not be unusual. But, especially if this is not a normal occurrence, this is a symptom that conception may have taken place. The reason for this is that when a woman becomes pregnant, her body begins to prepare itself to produce milk – and as part of this process – the breast becomes swollen. In fact, many women report that they discovered they were pregnant when their breasts became so sensitive that even the slightest brush against them hurts. Others have described it as a tingling sensation

Common Issues Experienced Whilst Pregnant
There are a lot of changes taking place in your body during pregnancy that you should be aware of. These changes occur as part of the trimesters that you go through, with the first and third of them typically being the worst in the sense that you probably feel most discomfort during those periods.
Morning sickness or, for that matter, a feeling of nausea any time of the day, is a very common consequence of pregnancy, and happens most frequently in the first trimester. There also may be an increased sensitivity to smells which will trigger nausea. Sometimes these smells are ones that are typically enjoyed when not pregnant.
Urinary frequency and thirst in prenatal care is another common side effect of pregnancy. Women tend to be more thirsty and need more nourishment, including drinking plenty of water. Drinking more fluids, coupled with the uterus growing and pressing on your bladder, will cause you to have to urinate a lot more frequently than normal. This is common throughout the pregnancy but is most pronounced during the first and last trimesters. During the second trimester, this usually subsides a bit, but most women will still have a sense of having to urinate more frequently than when not pregnant.
You may find yourself having problems trying to get to sleep, as this is something that many pregnant women experience. Try to avoid taking any medication to help you sleep, unless it is expressly advised to you by your doctor. A better approach is to simply work on making your sleeping area more comfortable and performing relaxation techniques.
You skin, nails and hair will also undergo changes when you become pregnant, as a result of unbalances in your hormonal levels. It is best not to attempt to do anything drastic, but rather just accept that you won’t be looking your best for a while. If you try to apply various treatments to rectify these issues, not only will they probably not work, but you will also be putting yourself in contact with a range of chemicals – something that you definitely want to avoid doing whilst you are pregnant.
Bear in mind that the changes and problems mentioned above are just temporary though, and that although they may be be uncomfortable or annoying, they are not anything to worry about. However, should you feel that any of them are becoming unbearable, then you can contact your doctor, who may be able to advise you on some techniques that you can implement to lessen the impact that they are having on you.

Staying Fit While Pregnant: Your Health Matters
You’re tired, even exhausted. You’re emotionally drained from the day. Making matters worse, you haven’t enjoyed a good night’s sleep for over a week. And of course, your growing body is making you feel simultaneously uncomfortable and sluggish. Even though pregnancy is a joyous experience that you probably don’t regret, it still has its challenges. If only it were less mentally and physically taxing.
Imagine if there was a way in which you could stay more energized throughout each day. What if you could relieve the frustrating symptoms that accompany pregnancy? How much would you pay to alleviate the headaches and back pains while regaining the balance you once enjoyed? Maintaining a daily exercise routine can deliver all of these benefits.
In this article, we’ll explain the reasons you should create and follow a daily fitness regimen while you’re pregnant. We’ll provide a few guidelines to follow and describe the types of exercises that will deliver the best results.
Reasons To Exercise During Your Pregnancy
One of the most frustrating annoyances of being pregnant is the seemingly constant fatigue that envelopes your body and mind. This happens most often during the first and thrid trimesters. A daily fitness routine will not only give you a new level of physical energy, but will also improve your mood. That’s due to the endorphins that are released during your workout.
You’ll also find that regular physical activity will help you sleep more soundly, relieve the tension in your back, and reduce your constipation (common during pregnancy). Many women even report that a daily fitness regimen helped them experience an easier, shorter labor.
Following A Few Guidelines
Make sure you discuss any new fitness plan with your obstetrician. Your body is going through dramatic changes, after all. You’re more susceptible to dehydration and overheating while you’re pregnant, which can be dangerous for you and your baby. Your doctor may want to tailor your new regimen based on your personal circumstances.
Pick low-impact exercises. Walking and swimming are both popular with moms-to-be because they’re safe, easy on the joints, and don’t introducing balancing issues. Also, be open to modifying your workout routine as your body grows and your balance shifts. And of course, start slow, especially if you’re unaccustomed to working out.
3 Types Of Exercises To Focus On
Try to include activities that will help your improve your strength and flexibility while working your cardiovascular system. Weights can be valuable for building your muscles and strengthening your bones. Focus on repetitions rather than the amount of weight you’re lifting.
Stretching is especially useful for relieving aches and pains that accumulate within your shoulders, back, and legs. Be very cautious. Your joints will probably be more relaxed during your pregnancy; take care not to strain your muscles.
Walking and swimming are excellent activities for strengthening your heart and lungs. Plus, because you’ll be burning calories, these exercises are a great way to stay fit while feeling energized.
You don’t have to feel sluggish, uncomfortable, and perpetually fatigued during your pregnancy. Create an exercise routine, discuss it with your doctor, don your favorite workout maternity clothes, and start getting into shape. You’ll be glad you did.

Is homebirthing safe
One way of giving birth to a baby is by hiring a midwife. They may not be a nurse or a doctor but a midwife is also a licensed professional. They generally assist women to have natural childbirths. Many times the delivery is done at home. Because the midwife isn’t a doctor or a nurse or the delivery is done at home people question whether it is safe. This article will look and see if it is safe to use a midwife.
First of all as a San Diego midwife this allows me to answer these questions with knowledge. The main thing people are concerned about is safety.Well you might be surprised but midwives are also trained to handle emergencies during the delivery of the babies. And most of the things that can happen during a delivery midwives are ready to handle.
The next hing that people are most concerned about this method is the fact that this method is usually done at homes. The concern is there isn’t emergency medical equipment or doctors around. But in general in my homebirth midwife San Diego service I only take women who are healthy. In other words if there are concerns medically I will let them deliver in a hospital.Or if they had some issues regarding the delivery of babies before then I would also recommend them to go to the hospital.
That being said contrary to popular opinion a midwife does have the necessary medical equipment in case of emergency. But since the delivery is done naturally then there would be less complications. That is the general experience of my certified midwives San Diego service. Usually the complications in a hospital are due to the drugs they use.And doing it the natural way would lessen these complications.
So hopefully you see that a midwife and a home birth are safe alternatives to delivering a baby.So if you want to go natural you must research more about it. You will be gladly surprised with all the good information you will find. And you will see it is safer than most people think.
