Giving birth at home safely

One of the choices women have during pregnancy is how they will deliver. What I’m trying to say when I said how they deliver is where do they want to give birth-in the hospital or at their homes. Most women don’t realize they have that choice mainly because they don’t realize that homebirths are safe. But of course there will be skeptics who don’t believe in this method. But if they just research and look for studies about this method then they will realize that there a lot of evidence that this method is safe.

The safety of a homebirth is definitely questioned.  From my observations from my practice as a San Diego midwife I have found it to be absolutely safe. The risks are the same either in a hospital or homebirth as I have witnessed from the 300 homebirths I have assisted in.Having a baby in the hospital or at home doesn’t make any difference in minimizing those risks. On the ohter hand, the risks also would not increase because of this.

So what are the risks of doing this method? One reason is that complications might happen while giving birth and this worries people. They think that people who assist in homebirths are not nurses.  Well as a homebirth midwife in San Diego we do know medical procedures. All the necessary equipments for the common complications of a chilbirth are always with us.It is but natural that any serious complications that would arise during birthing should be addressed by a doctor.  But that isn’t any different then in a hospital.

Women who have low risk pregnancies are the only women recommended for homebirths.  If a woman is found to have possible complications any good midwife would not encourage this method.  This is standard procedure for all San Diego licensed midwife. The reason as to why is because midwives have a limited medical practice and they cannot do all the things that a doctor can do.  That is why they do make sure any high risk pregnancies are delivered in a hospital.

For those against having a baby at home it will be hard to convince them otherwise. But for the women who likes to try this method then they should know that this method is safe if not as safe as a delivery in the hospital.

Advantages of water birthing

One uncommon way to give birth is water birthing but it is already gaining some popularity. This method is unlike the other methods where they require patients to lie on a medical bed.But it is safe to use when delivering a baby.

So what we are going to do is take a look at this particular process of giving birth and looking at its advantages. These are going to come from experience that I have gained as a San Diego midwife.Water birth is the method of giving birth to a baby while the mother is submerged in water.Usually, it is done in a tub full of warm water. It is said to be good for the baby because the baby also lived in a similar environment for almost 9 months. The babies have been in water inside the mother’s womb for 9 months and using this method helps the babies get adjusted.

There are also studies where it is shown to be beneficial in reducing birthing pains. To hear that is a big relief for women. Medicine is rarely used in this kind of delivery method.  I have performed many without medicine as well as many other midwives San Diego I have spoken with.

Is water birthing a safe way to deliver a baby?It is safe for the babies and mothers most of the time as we can learn from the studies on this process. There are just a few cases when it isn’t safe to use because of certain medical conditions of the patient. I have had that happen in my water birth San Diego service. Going to a specialist first is the best way.

Reduced skin tears is another benefit that pregnant mothers get from having a water birth. It can be a very painful experience during delivery. But if you choose this kind of delivery then that possiblity will be lessened.  Because it soothes the skin.

This kind of delivery can be the right choice for you if you just follow these steps.  It has many benefits for both the mother as well as the baby. But go see and ask your doctor first if this is the right method for you.
